At the Village, Katie is the manager of Broadway Entertainments which is great fun where the Villagers do music, dance and drama. Katie's outgoing personality makes here one of the most popular coaches, not only amongst the participants but also with her fellow coaches at the Village. Today, we are with Katie in Aviles where we have the pleasure of interviewing her to discuss her plans for the Village 2016.
Katie please, tell us something about you.
I'm originally from North Carolina in the United States, but I have been living in Madrid for 3 years. In America, I work as an actress and dancer--my dream is to be on Broadway! But here in Spain, I teach English to students in primary and secondary school.
Tell us about your experience at the Village in 2015
My experience at The Village in 2015 was amazing. I worked with Broadway Academy in the mornings, and I was a normal international coach in the afternoons. I met lots of interesting people, and I had so much fun. I can't wait to return again in 2016!
As manager of Broadway at the Village tell us about your plans for 2016?
Broadway Academy 2016 will still focus on acting, singing, and dancing, but we will also be working on two short musicals - one for kids and one for teens.
How important is drama as a tool for practicing/learning the English language?
In my opinion, drama is one of the best tools for learning and practising English because it requires you to get out of your comfort zone and focus on something other than books and lessons. It's so much fun, you don't even realize you are speaking English!
What improvments did you see in the participantants at Broadway from day 1 to day 15?
Last year, the participants of Broadway Academy improved SO much from day 1 to 15. On the first day everyone was a little nervous and shy, but on the last day everyone was very confident and energetic! We learned so many dances and songs, and our final show was a huge success.
Tell us about your recent trip to Asturias to meet with Village coaches and staff?
Last weekend I visited some coaches and staff members of the Village in Asturias. It was my first time in the north of Spain, and I loved it! The area is so beautiful and green, and the people are so nice. Of course, the food was delicious too! We did a lot of planning for the Village 2016, and I am so excited. I cannot wait until summer! I hope to see many returning participants, as well as lots of new people too!
